KAB Canterbury holds ‘See it Our Way’ Sight Exhibition
On Wednesday 25th August at Trinity Resource Centre, Margate, from 10am – 2pm, KAB will host an exhibition of ideas, advice and equipment to inform Thanet's local people who have sight loss. Rehab Worker Debs Fisher at KAB Canterbury comments: "It's surprising that a large number of visually impaired residents in the Thanet areas of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs often have little knowledge of aids, contacts or access to the outside agencies who can best support their autonomy and choice to live fulfilled, independent lives.
"According to research by RNIB, every day 100 people in the UK start to lose their sight. The KAB Canterbury Team has decided the time is right to organise an exhibition aimed at the Thanet catchment areas, where there will be displays and information about a wide range of magnifiers, talking equipment, CCTVs, computer software and information on tape/CD/digital services. Our Rehabilitation Team will be on hand and will be happy to give advice and information."
Exhibitors include Humanware, who will demonstrate the Trekker, a personal sat nav; Kent Talking News, who will promote their new, free, digital local news service, now available on USB sticks and listened to through a Boom Box; Assistive Technology courses run regularly at KAB Canterbury, where people with a sight impairment can learn Keyboard Skills, Information Communication Technology (E-Mails, Internet, Letters, Scanning etc), Magnification and Speech, and try out Guide Software, an accessible all-in-one programme; and Wiltshire Farm Food who will provide samples of their ready-prepared dishes.
Admission is free. Refreshments are available from the on site café. Wheelchair access and parking are both also available.
