sainburys logoOn Friday 16th and Saturday 17th July, Sainsbury's at Romney Place in Maidstone kicks off its partnership with Kent Association for the Blind, holding two days of in-store events designed to appeal to both Sainsbury's staff and customers and to raise money for and awareness of KAB and its local services for people with sight loss.

Sainsbury's recently selected KAB to be its local charity of the year by means of a customer vote and presentations from the shortlisted three charities to the Sainsbury's team. KAB was the successful charity and has now planned a series of events with Sainsbury's to run until the end of June 2011. The events kick off on 16th July with in-store activities such as naming the KAB teddy mascot and trying out tasks such as coin-counting and sandwich-making blindfold. Sainsbury's staff will also be wearing Kool Shades for KAB.

Dan Jones, PR Ambassador at Sainsbury's Maidstone, says: "We chose KAB to be our charity of the year as we feel that we can make a positive difference to our community by working together. Colleagues are really motivated to make this partnership a huge success. We want to learn more about sight loss and are planning to send colleagues on visual awareness training days at KAB, so we are better equipped to help customers who are sight impaired."

Anita Hinchcliff, Rehabilitation Team Leader at KAB Maidstone says: "We are thrilled that Sainsbury's has chosen KAB to partner this year – our 90th birthday year. Our aim is to support sight impaired people to live independent lives. Our association with Sainbury's will raise both awareness of our charity, and money to support projects such as Talking Newspapers, Assistive Technology and Guide Communicator Service (for people who are Deafblind) - all services available to people in Maidstone."
