How to find us:

By Bus:
The Stage Coach BUS NO.22 Can be caught at the Canterbury Bus Station and stops in London Road, close to our premises.

By Car:
Take the coastbound M2 to where it ends; take the Canterbury turn-off and join the A2, continuing into Canterbury until the first roundabout and turn left into London Road. We are on the corner of Temple Road. Limited parking is available on site but there is free street parking up to four hours.

By Train:
We are a ten-minute walk from Canterbury West Station. Ring for directions.

Who is here:

A large and very experienced team of Rehabilition Workers.

An "Army" of Volunteers without whom we could never manage.

What is here:

The KAB East Kent Sight Centre is a large accessible building recently refurbished to a high standard that has been adapted for the needs of visually and physically disabled people. It includes a well-equipped training kitchen, a well stocked and up to date Resource Centre, an I.T. Training Suite, two lounges-cum-meeting rooms, an L.V.A. room as well as the administration offices.

What happens here:

Regular rehabilitation courses (see Centre Programme below); weekly appointments with a Hospital Optician; regular I.T. training classes; awareness training and much more . . .

Volunteering:

Our Voluntary Services Organiser is always delighted to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer a little of their free time. The opportunities are endless, everything from helping in the Centre, befriending, reading mail, providing transport (for which expenses are paid) or supporting our Rambling Group etc. Contact us for an informal chat.

A Guide-Communicator for people who are deafblind is a person trained to provide guiding and communication support. For example, a Guide-communicator will enable you to continue to do the following and many other tasks for yourself:

  • Go to the GP/hospital/dentist
  • Go out safely to access essential services
  • Food shopping and other shopping (eg clothes)
  • Communicate in groups and one-to-one
  • Support using environmental aids
  • Make telephone calls
  • Payment of bills Read and write/type correspondence
  • Check labels on medication
  • Checking food in storage for hygiene
  • News and information update
  • Take exercise and leisure pursuits
  • If you are experiencing difficulties with communication, access to information and mobility due to a combined sight and hearing loss, and would like more details about the Guide-communicator Service, please contact:
