Radio & TV
The Wireless for the Blind Fund loans radios to people of limited means who are registered as blind. The range includes a simple to use pre-set radio, a radio cassette and a TV Sound Receiver. Adults and children over the age of 8 years can apply to the KAB who act as agent.
People who are registered blind are entitled to a small reduction to the cost of their TV licence. There is help too in finding out what is on. Programme details are available in braille, large print and on tape. Daily listings of programmes are provided by Carlton 01426 927 958 and Meridian 0345 573 041. Talking teletext and easy to see remote controls are helpful too.
Hand Magnifiers
It is usually helpful to wear reading glasses. Sometimes distance glasses are better.
Hold the magnifier near the page, then draw it towards you slowly until the print is clear.
If the magnifier is small it is because it is strong. In this case, hold the magnifier and the page close to your eye.
Battery Size (if needed)
Turn off after use. Remove batteries if not in use for long periods.
