My spectacles no longer help. Is there anything else that will help with reading?
First of all try improving your lighting. A KAB Rehabilitation Worker can discuss with you the best types of lighting for your particular situation. We also able to demonstrate a wide range of handheld and stand magnifiers at our Resource Rooms. If appropriate you can also be referred to a Low Vision Clinic, where reading aids are loaned, free of charge. KAB is also able to demonstrate electronic reading aids when conventional magnifiers are no longer powerful enough.
With my current magnifier I can only see a couple of letters at a time. Where can I obtain a larger, stronger magnifier?
If your sight changes you should request a review of your needs from a KAB Rehabilitation Worker. However, as the lenses in magnifiers increase in strength, they also increase in thickness. Therefore, as the power gets stronger the magnifier gets heavier. So it's impossible to have a very strong magnifier that covers a large area as it would be too heavy to use! There are several other options, such as electronic reading aids. Make an appointment to visit one of our local KAB Resource Rooms to get advice.
