Compact+ and Video Magnifier Review
Manufacturer: Optelec
As an independent person with cone and rod dystrophy this means I require print to be substantially enlarged in order to read. For work and home use I have got along fine for many years with an electronic CCTV magnifier, a large piece of equipment that sits on a desktop. Recently however, I was finding it more and more frustrating not to be able to read information when out and about. For example, on holiday when staying in a hotel, if I wanted to access the local leaflets and maps what was the solution? My pocket sized magnifier was just not up to the job as it's tiring to read large amounts of text on a small surface area and the light is not always ideal. The answer came when I discovered a portable and versatile magnifier, the Compact+ made by Optelec. It suits my needs very well as the magnification range is 5, 7.5 and 10 x and there are various text and background colour choices, I find the Black with yellow text is best for me when outside as I don't get any glare on the screen. You can freeze frame an image, handy if there's a phone number you want to dial etc, and the re-chargeable batteries last up to 3 hours, but you can put standard ones in as well if you forget your charger!
