KAB services

Rehabilitation
Six Rehab teams based around the region provide a range of services to help many thousands of people with sight impairments stay independent, mobile and safe.

We run playgroups for sight impaired children, give support and information to their parents, and arrange youth groups and events for teenagers. We teach people how to be independently mobile and how to use specialist computer software. We provide specialist services for people who also have a learning disability and we help people to stay in employment after sight loss.

Leisure and social support
KAB has a network of over 80 local clubs and groups across the region. The clubs provide leisure and sports activities, social support, and act as a safety net for many isolated and elderly blind people.

Work with deafblind people
Our Guide Communicator service provides one-to-one support for people with dual sensory loss. We have around 40 Guide Communicators who act as facilitators for Deafblind people, making it possible for them to communicate and interact with their local environment.

Digital Kent Talking Newspapers
We provide free talking newspapers and magazines to almost 2,000 sight impaired people every week. Most of our listeners are in their 80s and 90s, and many live alone. Talking News helps them to stay in touch with local life.

Transcription Service
We help local companies and organisations make their information accessible to sight impaired people by providing services that transcribes material into large print, audio or Braille formats. We can also offer advice and information on producing accessible material.
