Candidates who are considering applying for the Foundation Degree should:

Be working with people who are sight impaired for a minimum of 2 days per week in an education/health and social care setting (paid or voluntary)

Have one A-Level qualification or appropriate Level 3 NVQ and/or interview for those with no formal qualifications

Students will attend tutorials for a maximum of 2 days per week and will be expected to devote additional study time

Student's can attend modules individually by becoming an associate student; this is valuable for people wishing to build on their skills to gain credits to access a higher education course

Each module attracts 20 credits at HE level

Alternatively, students who have already undertaken certificated courses in rehabilitation can use these to APL (Assessment of Prior Learning) up to 50% of the Foundation Degree. Evidence will be required, and each case will be looked at on an individual basis. This gives students the opportunity to gain the Foundation Degree without attending the modules already undertaken

This Foundation Degree allows articulation within the Faculty of Health to a BSc (Hons) in inter-professional practice at Level 6
Information for Employers

Employers must agree to students attending a maximum of 2 days per week for tutorials

They will also provide a Workplace Learning Facilitator to oversee the students' work based learning

The Workplace Learning Facilitator will be requested to attend 2 meetings per year with other Workplace Learning Facilitators

Employers should allow students access to IT support in the workplace
Costs to Students
The course fees are approximately £260.00 per module. An additional handling fee of £60.00 to KAB, will apply per specialist module.
