We have three Sight Centres; in Maidstone, Bromley and Canterbury. We also have a Mobile Sight Centre vehicle, called Iris, that visits hard to reach locations across Kent and surrounding areas. Car Parking
On-street parking is available in College Road and is limited to two hours. The nearest pay and display car park is College Road.

Accessibility
The Centre has a ramp from the car park at the rear of the building. Within the Centre there is a wide door lift and accessible toilets.

By Bus

  • Arriva bus no 17 leaves Maidstone King Street Stop L3 approximately once an hour and travels to Tovil Road. Alight at the stop on Tovil Road near Courtney Road and cross the nearby zebra crossing. Turn right and carry on along Tovil Road until the road forks left into College Road. The sight centre is on the left hand side approximately 500 yards onto College Road.

  • Nu venture buses no 23 and 26 also take this route, leaving from stop J5 at The Mall, and run a service between ½ hour – 1 ½ hours.

By Train

  • Maidstone West for Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells.

  • Maidstone East for East and West Malling, stations to Sevenoaks

Both stations have a taxi rank

Please note that whilst it is possible to take a bus from the stations to the town centre, there is no direct service to College Road.

By Foot

  • The walk along College Road is mainly is flat, although there is a gentle incline if travelling from the town centre.

KAB is based in Community House, along with other organisations such as Age UK Bromley and Greenwich, Citizens Advice Bromley, Community Links Bromley and DeafPlus.

Location
Community House is directly opposite the Fire Station in Bromley Town centre. It is approximately 3 minutes’ walk from Bromley North station and 10 minutes’ walk from Bromley South station. If you have any questions about Community House, please call the centre manager on 020 8315 2501.

Parking
There is no visitor parking available at the Community House site.

By Bus

There are many Town Centre bus stops nearby plus the Bus Station at Bromley north.

By Train

There are regular train services running from Central London and Kent Stations to Bromley South and Bromley North.

By Car

There are two public car parks run by Bromley Council nearby. One in South Street and the other opposite the Glades shopping centre.

Car Parking
There is no parking at our Sight Centre. The road has double yellow lines and is a one way street. Please call if you are visiting and need local parking information.

Accessibility
We are on the ground floor of the building. The building is accessible for wheelchair users.

By Bus

  • The closest bus stops are Canterbury Bus Station, Canterbury East Train Station and Whitefriars (E3 stop).

By Train

  • Canterbury East – From Herne Bay, Faversham, Whistable (via Faversham) Sittingbourne, stations towards Dover. Canterbury East is the closest station.
  • Canterbury West – From Ashford, Ramsgate and Margate.

By Foot

  • St John’s Lane is within walking distance from the Bus Station and Whitefriars Car Park.

This is a local authority building so we are unable to provide the same drop-in services that we offer at our sight centres in Maidstone, Bromley and Canterbury. 

Iris (Mobile Sight Centre)

Iris (Mobile Sight Centre)

Iris is our new mobile sight centre that travels the county. This vehicle is packed with equipment, resources and technology and the Iris team are trained to give you the help and advice you need.

Not only can Iris provide assistance to people with a sight impairment, its other goal is to raise awareness of the importance of good eye health.

Room hire

Our Maidstone sight centre has a selection of rooms available, competitively priced and offering versatile venues suitable for a variety of uses, such as meetings, presentations, events and counselling sessions. The rooms have excellent facilities, are fully accessible for people with disabilities and offer self-catering amenities. Discounted prices are offered to not-for-profits, community organisations and Local Authority partners.
