Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs)
We understand how upsetting it can be when you’re told you are losing your sight. That’s why we have Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs) on hand to give you the essential emotional and practical support you need at this crucial time.
Our ECLOs will spend time with you to talk through your concerns, explain more about your eye condition, give you information about help available to you or just listen. Having help at this early stage can prevent other problems like falls or a deterioration in your wellbeing and provide you with coping strategies to help you manage your condition. This may include information about the registration process, local support services, treatments and benefits and concessions.
We support approximately 320 people attending eye clinic outpatient appointments each month across 10 hospitals in Kent, Medway, Bromley and Bexley. The ECLOs do their very best to help make your visit as stress free as possible. So give them a call or send them an email if you have concerns about attending an appointment at one of the clinics.

ECLO Impact Report for 2025/2026
Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs) are a nationally recognised model of good practice, providing a bridge between Health and Social Care services.
Read about the impact the service has on patients with a sight impairment and to hospital staff.
You were really helpful and kind at the hospital. I was particularly grateful as it was a bit of a shock to get the AMD (age related macular degeneration) diagnosis and CVI (Certificate of Vision Impairment) but you were a great support and help at this time.
Annual ECLO activity in numbers
2025/2026
The ECLO is invaluable to my patients as a link between the clinic and KAB. It is a huge relief to be able to put patients directly in touch with someone who can offer them real help. Patients are invariably grateful for the support.
