Our impact
‘The service allows me to feel more independent, including making tea, reading books and newspapers, and how to use the existing light more effectively. These make my life much better’
We’re proud that our services support thousands of people across Kent and the surrounding areas to improve their lives and enable them to live independently. During our 99 years of support we’ve gathered a wealth of experience and expertise. We’re committed to delivering quality and driving improvement informed by learning from the feedback we capture.
We make an impact in so many ways; from our rehabilitation services to providing training to healthcare professionals and assistive technology support. Our robust evaluations demonstrates how we positively change lives.
Supporting independent lives
Through our breadth of services, we support people with sight loss to live independent lives, promote inclusion and reduce isolation. With our advice and guidance we can help people get back to doing day to day activities and the things they enjoy; reading, cooking or even starting a new hobby and meeting new friends.
When my vision was damaged I thought that life had ended. The Gravesend Art Group has inspired me to try, and that world opened up for me again.
I can’t thank Fran the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer enough. The advice I was given has been wonderfully helpful.
Counselling impact report 2024
In 2019 KAB introduced a counselling service for clients across Kent, Medway, Bromley and South East London.
The consistent annual rise in referrals, averaging a 22% increase, demonstrates improved awareness of the service and the growing need for counselling.
ECLO Impact Report for 2025/2026
Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs) are a nationally recognised model of good practice, providing a bridge between Health and Social Care services.

Evaluation and monitoring
‘It is an essential part of the care of a patient with failing vision. The increasing capacity strains on the hospital service restrict time with patients and focus on surgical and drug related therapies – however often the most important care is the community support and emotional support that can be delivered by the ECLO role’
We are committed to demonstrating the life-changing impact and quality of our services to commissioners and healthcare professionals, working closely with our partners to demonstrate how our services can help reduce the wider impact on social care. We continually collect feedback across our services and learn how we could improve and support more people to live independent lives.
Measuring change
We’re confident that we deliver outstanding services, but we also want to be able to prove it. Our evaluation tool has been developed to demonstrate the impact of our rehabilitation service using a variety of measures, including independent living and social inclusion. We collect data at the start and end of support so we can clearly see the incredible change our service makes to people’s lives.

Increasing capacity for partner agencies
As well as ensuring we’re meeting the needs of our service users, it’s important to us that our services provide value for money and support our partners and the agencies we work with. Information from our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer service (ECLO) demonstrates both the positive impact the service has on patients, and how the service supports the hospital with its capacity challenges.
