Join our wonderful team of collections helpers, who raise thousands of pounds to support our charity. As a volunteer collector, your role is an important one, as you’ll be visiting shops, clubs and pubs to pick up collection pots. You’ll be chatting with the owners/staff and thanking them for supporting our charity.
Covid-19 update
We are carrying out very limited collections at the moment given the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we are keen to start the recruitment process so that we are ready when businesses open up again and resume more fully, when it is safe to do so.

Working in association with: Fundraising Administrators
The main purpose of this position is to obtain the maximum revenue for KAB, through collection pots placed in shops, clubs and public houses etc.
The Collector should be able to promote KAB’s work confidently and be able to explain why fundraising is so important for the charity.
Initiative should be used to encourage and suggest special events at some sites e.g. raffles, sponsored walks, darts matches etc; these can often raise substantial amounts of income.
A vital part of our work involves the placing of collection pots at new sites as we need to continually expand our potential.
Tasks for a collector
Collectors will be informed of any site requests.
Planning regular call patterns to maximise good, efficient service and minimise mileage and any associated expenses.
The collections are always to be counted at the collecting site (unless otherwise requested), receipt given or posted on the same day and countersigned by the donor if possible.
Returns to be made to the local office include:
- List of calls and collections according to existing or new site via a Weekly Collection Sheet.
- List of new sites, accompanied by completed New Site form. Site ID number will be allocated by KAB and returned to collector. A KAB Thank You card to be given to any new site agreeing to take a collecting box.
- Expenses sheet to be sent in monthly. Labels and envelopes provided. Stamps can be reclaimed via expense form.
Occasional tasks for a collector
Replenish stocks of collecting boxes, labels, security stickers, darts and flights from KAB Sight Centre Maidstone – Fundraising cupboard (downstairs).
Clean dirty boxes, and re-label where necessary to maintain a smart appearance of the boxes.
Replenish KAB promotional material: Annual Reviews, Newsletters, details of sponsored events – Fundraising Department.

Essential Criteria
Be able to demonstrate:
- A confident manner and proven ability with experience of dealing with the public face to face.
- Self-motivation.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead.
- Ability to travel independently across the area of service.
Desirable Criteria
Be able to demonstrate:
- Possession of a professional manner and flexible approach to working.
- Flexibility with working practices while maintaining good time management skills.
- Recognition of limitations of skills and knowledge leading to liaison with Line Manager when necessary.
- Experience of working in sales would be an advantage.
- Basic computing skills and access to computer (specifically email is an advantage).
