Be seen this winter

As we move from Winter to Spring, the weather can be ever-changing; one day it could be raining or snowing and another it could be relatively mild. Irrespective, the nights are still dark, so it’s important to stay safe and be seen.

Beware of winter weather

In snowy conditions, keep to the inner shoreline of the pavement, so that you know you are not too close to the kerb.

When it’s snowing or icy, think about whether you have to go out. If you have to, make sure you wear suitable footwear, such as boots with good grip. I also suggest wearing a hat rather than a hood, so that your hearing is not impaired. If you’re a cane user, wear fingerless gloves so that you can still feel the cane movement.

Glare can be a particular problem for people with some sight conditions. It’s a good idea to wear anti-glare eye shades or a peaked cap.

Stand out

For those dark nights, always be seen! Some people don’t like to wear flourescent jackets. However, if it makes you more visible, then you’ll be (and feel) much safer! Otherwise, you can wear reflective belts, bags or armbands (as in the photo above). Just don’t wear dark clothes!
