Talking Appliances

Digital appliances can prove difficult to operate, especially when the labels on the controls are small and hard to read.

Whilst you can use bump-ons (small raised dots) to label control dials, they can still be difficult to operate. Talking appliances are often simple to use with clear, tactile controls and provide audible instructions.

There are many products available, including from RNIB and Cobolt Systems.

Talking Microwaves

Talking microwaves have simple clearly contrasted and tactile controls which will often alert you to remaining cooking times (for example every 10 seconds if the time is less than a minute) and will tell you when the cooking time has ended. They will also tell you when the door is open.

Talking Air Fryers

Often seen as a more energy-efficient alternative for the oven, the air fryer is rising in popularity. Like the talking microwaves, the talking air fryers also have a spoken countdown timer and have tactile controls. They also announce when to rearrange the food halfway through cooking.
